first look at inksmouth!!

hi it's admin N (for nick)!! i'm the programmer/coder/whatever of the team, the host of the itch page, and one of the co-founders of the project! to anyone with enough interest to look in the devlog posts of the project, thank you very much! i have a few things to say about it that i would say, with this demo preview launch, is officially starting!

About the project

to disclaim as always, i started the project just this January with only a rudimentary understanding of Ren'Py from my high school days nearly a decade ago. I knew how to display images and write them in the code, and how to write dialogue and display that. and i was expecting that to be enough! but we became quite ambitious, and so i went on to learn more things through tutorials on youtube (and wow the resources have expanded since high school!) and community posts on the ren'py subreddit until i came far enough to say that at this point i'm at least intermediate level!

but it wouldn't be possible for me to do all that homework if the others weren't there to do everything else, like artwork, writing, and recently, music composition! my role as a programmer, where i get to put all the pieces everyone made into the machine, really gives me a perfect view of how having a good team helps elevate the project and the team members themselves.

all this to say: if i'm able, as the coder and UI artist, to make the game look good, it's only because of everyone's efforts! i'm truly grateful for the team that's gathered.

About the demo release!

i'm incredibly proud of what we've managed to put together, but i wanted to reiterate that

1. our team is small, and mostly new to vn development
2. our testing environments aren't perfect
3. i'm a novice ren'py developer myself

so if you come across any bugs or major errors under any conditions, you're welcome to report them! but also

we'd be so very happy if you talked about the parts of the game you enjoyed, or your thoughts as you played, etc.! art, music, writing, all of it!

it may be a while before we're able to drop any further playable content, but if our little passion project could make a buzz, we'd put the inspiration to good use!

and when next you'll hear from us... we'll see! we'll keep in touch on the project's twitter for sure as development proceeds, but there's still quite a bit of planning to do! i love asking questions about behind the scenes stuff, so feel free to ask from any available channels!

and autofister? uhhh. (game dev voice) please look forward to it!
